Oh Boy! I feel like such a dope! THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A WORDPRESS PLUGIN CALLED "POWER THUMBNAIL"!!!!
Having spend ages wondering how on earth a simple snippet of code on one page was causing this message on all my pages....I used Filezilla to search for the files with API in their name.....and it found one related to the Plugin mentioned above. Once I disabled the plugin....which I wasn't using anyway.....everything was fine again. SORRY if I confused anyone.
