To compare ancient maps with recent ones, it would be helpful to show a grid of longitude and latitude degrees. The grid should be labelled, preferrably on a frame around the map.
In mapping history different zero meridians (Greenwich, Ferro, ...) have been used, as well as different angular dimensions (360°, 400gon); recently the UTM system shows a grid given in meters rather than degrees. This grid should be part of the api. I already made a prototype http://www.schroefl.com/de/karten/index_test.php?ort=ternitz (not very elegant, I am not a developer) Details: * Number of lines should be selectable, depending on the width and height of the map (I used 4 to 5 lines on 800px) * lines should be used for useful values (like 16°25', 16°50', instead of 16°24'49'' and 16°49'49'') * labels should either show full precision (like 20°00'00'') or only relevant precision (like 20°); I prefer the latter, but this should be selectable. * labels should be positioned relative to the lines * labels should be vertical or horicontal * the frame dimemsions should be selectable * the frame should not move (in the prototype it does) Regards Paul -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Maps API" group.
