Hello World,
I'm working on a project, but I don't know if what I'm trying to do is
possible, let alone where to begin. Perhaps you could advise me.
First, here’s why I want to build it:

For science.
I’m working with a world renowned neuroscientist, Dr. M. He has ideas
that need testing about the hippocampus, and navigational memory.
These ideas are hard to test, because they relate to walking around a
city. BUT - people inside a MEG machine, or an MRI machine can’t very
well do any “walking around” - until now. StreetView makes it
possible to perform a barrage of navigational tasks while seated in a
chair allowing us to capture brain data.

That’s the why, here’s the what:
I’d like to create a version of Google StreetView; downloaded and
cached for a large city (say, Toronto), in a nice clean interface that
we place in front of a user. Then, have that user navigate from A to B
while we capture data.

Simple right. So simple, why not just use proper Google StreetView? A
few reasons:

         1. We’d like no load times between images, and no smooth
transitions between images. Just click click click. Walk walk walk.
         2. No map or compass overlays. Just naked street view
picture.
         3. We need to able to access and adjust the individual
images:; alter building faces, black out landmarks, etc. If that's
legal...?
         4. And of course because this is for science, we need to be
able to log the user's every move and location, down to the
millisecond. This is probably the most important point of all.

I know it seems a little ambitious. As I'm reading it over now, I
realize that what I'm actually trying to build is an experimental
framework, Using what I described above, one could easily test a
breadth of neuro-functional activity, tweaking the tests as needed
based on findings. This eliminates the need to build a new product at
each stage of research. Even better, the tests would be portable and
replicable, allowing the framework itself to become a commodity for
the scientific community at large. This would be most exciting.

So. What do you geniuses think? Any advice on where to go from here?
Thank you very much for your time and your expertise.
Best,
Daniel Sadavoy
