Mark - Sorry I didn't pick up on this earlier. It's not a bug.
The bounds parameter should be specified as as SW and NE - your query has NW and SE. The correct query should be: http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?sensor=true&address=longview%20dr&bounds=43.648742,-70.436227|43.793588,-70.145825 which works as expected.
