They are different services.  The Geocoder API tries to look up
addresses.   There does seem to be a limit of ten results, when the
address is ambiguous.  If it thinks it has found a good match, it will
return only the one address.  That is what geocoders do.

maps.google.com does more than that, and offers nearby facilities even
for a "good" match.
