You could use several static maps placed immediately adjacent to each
other (NOT stitched together into a single large image), which would
take a little working out -- where the centre should be, where the
route you want to show should fall off the edge, etc; but that's the
only way of static maps where the URL length is restrictive. You would
end up with the Google logo appearing several times across the bottom,
though.
