I don't think so. If I understand what you're trying to do, the
methods are all there in the API - lines for the most part are called
polylines and shapes can be represented as polygons. You can have a
look here http://www.xelawho.com/map/ to see what I'm talking about -
the two select boxes at the top show lines and shapes on the map, both
of which have data stored in an external file.

Of course, your method for letting the user select which lines and
shapes to show can be anything from the standard range of web page
inputs (search box, links, select box, radio buttons, etc).

the coding is not *that* sophisticated and there are plenty of
tutorials out there (the most comprehensive being this one:
http://econym.org.uk/gmap/) but javascript does have its quirks and
there is a bit of a learning curve involved if you have never worked
with it before. My suggestion would be to go through the tutorials,
get an idea for what you want to do, get as far as you can and post
here (with a link of your map so far) once you run into specific
problems.
