now i am home, just checked the function of the shop locator itself
with the updated php.
AND ITS WORKING 100% as it should.
With Ä,Ö,Ü,ß etc etc also other special characters like [] - etc.
brilliant your tip :
$newnode->setAttribute("name", utf8_encode($row['name']));
$newnode->setAttribute("address", utf8_encode($row['address']));
was the soloution!
