Hi all, I may have found a defect or limit with the Static Maps api. When the url contains an encoded path and the view of that path covers a large area on the earth then the result is a map of Africa. Smaller areas work correctly. Note that the length of the URL for the large area is 1024 characters.
The large area is a route in southern British Columbia. The route is 190km long and the largest bound is just over 1 degree. The small area is roughly 1km long. If there is a limit to the area that can be shown then this is a documentation defect. If the Static Maps api designers believe that it can show larger areas then this a code defect. I hope that there is no defect in the example data I include below. The two URLs were generated by the same code. A java version of the Douglas-Peucker algorithm from http://facstaff.unca.edu/mcmcclur/GoogleMaps/EncodePolyline/PolylineEncoderClass.html is used. Is there a better way I might do this?
