Google Maps API itself doesnt provide access to this sort of information. For now can still access the Deprecated Local Search API: http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/localsearch/index.html and A bit from Google AJAX APIs - the documentation is not longer acessible tho. But mostly still works.
The replacement will be the Google Places API - but its not functional yet.
