There are peculiarities about UK postcode licensing.  People often
report better results by omitting postcode entirely.

Definitely.  Relying on someone else's lookup service makes your page
error prone as you have discovered.   Geocoding the same address every
time someone looks at your page is a waste of Google's resource that
we all share, and a waste of the end user's time as it takes longer.
