I would suggest a different approach. If your line passees within one or two millimetres of a marker, would you like that to be considered 'close enough'? Otherwise you are looking for some awfully precise locations. If you work with pixels, what is 'on' or 'off' the line may vary with zoom level. Perhaps that what you want, without knowing why you want it.
