I did try to do custom markers based on Mike's example and also the Google documentation but whenever I do try I break it. I would rather just see the solution with the code I pasted in my first post. I appreciate the links but I do plenty of searching before I come here to ask for help. So I'm not extremely confident that I'll be able to derive a solution from the link.
