For all I've seen, geolocation fails at random, but beyond that, the
page you linked to says:

"Currently, several ways exist to detect the user's location within a
browser. None of these methods are part of the Google Maps API;
instead, they are common industry standards."

This group is about the maps API V3, the methods you're asking about
are not.
