Earlier today, Google Maps API v3 was blocked for many users for a few
hours. The problem has been resolved but we wanted to let you know what
happened.

A large site started using Google Maps API v3 without letting us know in
advance. This increased usage by four times, causing an automated Google
system to think Google Maps API v3 was being DDoS'd. That system blocked
access to the bootstrap (http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js) for many IP
addresses.

We've since fixed the automatic block and significantly increased the
threshold so this should not happen again. Please let us know if you
continue to be blocked.

And finally a reminder: although there is no limit to the number of page
views of Maps on your site, if you expect more than 500,000 page views per
day please let us know in
advance<http://code.google.com/apis/maps/faq.html#hightrafficsite>
.

Thanks
Ben
