Hello, Here is a V2 example showing two custom map types with white and black background color:

I don't think so : concerning the background color option, the documentation says that "Color used for the background of the Map div. This color will be visible when tiles have not yet loaded as the user pans. This option can only be set when the map is initialized." So it seems we can't play with background color anymore.
