Hi This is happening because of the event propagation. There is a feature request that has been filed ( http://code.google.com/p/gmaps-api-issues/issues/detail?id=2172) to be able to stop the propagation.
You can star the feature request to show that you are interested in it and you will also be notified of any updates to it.
