An alternative to setTimeout might be a counter/divider that triggers
a 'customdrag' event say after each ten 'drag' events.

I have a feeling that some unintended 'drag' events really are
triggered. You get twice the number of 'drag' events compared to
'position_changed' events. When you keep dragging outside map <div>,
you get equal number of those.
