No API question. It seems that your input element is inside the map, so it seems you cannot use an API provided event hanler.
This page explains a bit more about what's going on http://www.quirksmode.org/js/events_order.html However, it's probably not enough in this case only to stop event propagation. The blur event must be fired when the outer element (the map) will be focused. This can be a difficult task.
