I did have to modify your xml (to remove the character that was
causing problems).  I suspect a character encoding issue with your php
script that creates the xml.  It is not really a Google Maps API issue
and I have solved similar problems with the V2 API (for my "Active
Volcanos" page).

You need to make sure that your xml, your page itself and your
database all agree on the character encoding being used, and advertise
the character encoding they are using.
