Thanks for your comments.

If you copy and paste the coordinates I sent directly into Google
Earth it will show exactly where the coordinates are supposed to point
to - a canal in the Bahamas, not on land.

I assumed that the API would take the coordinates in exactly the same
format as Google Earth will take them. Is that not the case? Are you
saying that the API will only take the coordinates in decimal format?
