The documentation http://code.google.com/intl/en/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/reference.html#PathElevationRequest for getElevationAlongPath states that the number of samples must be between 2 and 1024. I am getting a status of DATA_NOT_AVAILABLE for any number of samples greater than 512.
512, 1024: either number is fine with me.
