This actually is happening when we simple open a link directly to the
Google Maps website itself.

Specifically, we are opening a new window with a link like this:

http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=New+York%2C+NY+10035%2C+USA&daddr=40.705823%2C-73.996611+%28Brooklyn+Bridge%29

As I said this works fine for most, but some are getting the error I
gave.
