The absence from V3 of any functionality equivalent to
GBrowserIsCompatible() in V2 was very nearly a showstopper for me.  If
I could not have found a workaround, I would have abandoned
development of a V3 replacement for my V2 mashup.  (See www.gcna.org,
last link in Take Note block at right side of page.)  Fortunately, I
discovered this:

Place the warning text in the map_canvas div.  (Sample:  "If this text
does not disappear quickly, then your browser does not support Google
Maps.")  If the map is created, it will replace the warning text, so
the user probably will never even see it.

I verified that this warning message remains displayed in two old
browsers which do not support GMaps V2, and that it disappears as
expected in a browser which does support GMaps V2.
