I get "Unspecified error." in IE8 on this line in the API code:
k.namespaces&&k.namespaces.add("gm_v","urn:schemas-microsoft-
com:vml","#default#VML");
Looks like this is the same problem as this message:

Although it looks like the API version didn't have anything to do with
it. It seems that the first message from that search has a number of
possible resolutions (the post by William).
