Ah, that explains it then. The local server I put the kml file on is not 
publicly available. Once I moved it to a public server, it started working. It 
would have been nice if that had been mentioned somewhere - or is it, and I 
just missed it? Oh well, I only wasted an hour on it, so no major harm done.
