I don't know what you mean by actual swim as compared to planned swim.
The one thing that I can think of for an actual swim would be a data
logging gps watch, e.g., the Garmin 310xt. The 305 is less expensive
but less water resistant; I think I read that some people put it in a
ziplock bag and then put that in their swimming cap. The web sites I
mentioned in my previous post allow you to upload a recorded track from
your gps watch. (Do a google search for dcrainmaker if you don't have a
gps watch; he has lots of in depth reviews.)
