Thank you for your respose. I tried with a type code and it seems to be working. Seems like a bug in the documentation then? Where can I find the codes for categories? Or a I missing something again?
I read http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/places/#PlaceSearchRequests , which doesn't use any codes for places types and supported places types http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/places/supported_types.html Even the example in the above place documentation page uses a type called 'food'.
