[Google Maps API v3] Google API Console Key with geo coder

Hello,

I am trying to submit a request to the geo coder api using a new API
console key:

http://maps.google.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=sternbergweg%2CHamburg&region=de&language=de_DE&sensor=false&key=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

But the result is:
{
  "results": [],
  "status": "REQUEST_DENIED"
}

The Maps V2 and V3 API is enabled in the console.
Why is the API console key not working with the geocoder API?
