API key is instantaneous, and in any case Version 3 will work without a key at the moment. If you want help, post a demonstrator: doesn't need any proprietary information -- just a minimal demonstration on a free host will do. One issue is that the content of the infoWindow is only created (inserted into the DOM) once the infoWindow is shown.
