I've recently noticed using the Picasa API that the url to the images now resolve to a DNS entry which contains an underscore in the CNAME hostname. Looking at wikipedia and other resources this seems illegal (or at least was and is still not recommended: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hostname ). It's difficult to be certain but it seems likely that some systems will not support this.
Looking at this in detail it seems only lh3-6 suffer this issue, perhaps it just just a temporary fix for some offline servers? nslookup lh2.ggpht.com Server: 192.168.1.1 Address: 192.168.1.1#53 Non-authoritative answer: Name: lh2.ggpht.com Address: 72.215.225.9 ------------------------------------- nslookup lh3.ggpht.com Server: 192.168.1.1 Address: 192.168.1.1#53 Non-authoritative answer: lh3.ggpht.com canonical name = photos_ugc.l.google.com.
