Is it possible that you were making a request for the album entry instead of the album feed? That sounds like the results you were getting, although the url you listed below is correct.
If you call picasaweb.google.com/data/entry/api/user/xxx/albumid/xxx, it will return information about the album only, instead of returning the list of photos. If this is not the case, can you provide more information please?
