I am starting to feel that Picasa Web Albums returns an 'unknown user', since it does not recognise the client_email corresponding to the service account. If this is the case, it just means, that by deprecating clientlogin, Google broke the Server to Server support for picasa Web Album, at least if you are not using Java... That would be a bummer, since I used to access the facial data in my photo's in order to center the photo's that are displayed on my TV. Now this is not possible anymore.
