Maybe you're better off sending an email directly to Google, or in the Google Talk Help Discuss group at <http://groups.google.com/group/ Google-Talk-Help-Discuss>. As far as I know, google-talk-open isn't monitored by Googlers.
According to <http://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py? answer=53765>, you might be able to use your Google Talk username for Gmail by signing in at <https://www.google.com/accounts> before trying to create your Gmail account.
