Hey I like XMPP as much as anyone, but my originally the Google folks said they would add a SIP gateway on the server side so that Google Talk users could do IM and voice with SIP users (e.g., people on Gizmo). I don't know what the status of that is, but it seems consistent with the original Jabber approach of server-side gateways.
