I haven't checked our jabberd2's logs yet, but it seems we are also 
experiencing that kind of problems with gtalk here too (with 
univ-nantes.fr). It doesn't seem to impact all gmail accounts but only a 
few (hosted domains?).

Impacted gtalk users can't se us online at all and they appear offline 
here too. After a while, they just pops back online...

So I don't think it's directly related to ejabberd. I rather think that 
some of google's servers are losing their s2s link for some reasons.
