I am seeing this today, too, on google.com but not google.com.au. But it's got nothing to do with the theme categories we have been discussing for a few weeks. Yesterday Google released a special set of nature themes for summer - of course it's winter in Australia, so that's probable why it's not available on our country-specific page:
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/ 2009/06/igoogle-goes-au-naturel.html Before you start XML coding, look closely at the detail first: 1. This "Nature" category is NOT THE SAME as the previous one! The themes it selects are different. Check the address bar and you will see the new parameter "&cat=naturecampaign". The parameter for the previous "Nature" category was "&cat=nature". In fact, if you change the parameter in your address bar you will still be able to select the themes in the OLD nature category! In fact, changing this parameter to any category, either special categories like artists/causes/games or proposed new categories like nature/animals/abstract etc. you can select any of the categories in the same way. 2. If you look at the XML code for all these themes (both "old" and "new" nature), there is no attribute which specifies the category. They have obviously been manually selected and put into the categories by Google, not by some XML coding. 3. If Google allowed developers to code the category into their XML, they could place their theme into any category they liked, including the special ones (subject to Google review on submission). I would suggest that the reason that Google have gone quiet in this group about the new categories, is because they have had to rethink the concept to make sure they retain control of what goes into each category. I'm still waiting for updated detail on how we categorize our themes, but I'm not holding my breath!
