@TKDoherty: I temporarily replaced the thumbnail and screenshot URLs with that of the main image, and was able to find the problem:
There is a missing "<" before the closing /Meta tag on the "author_email" line. @Tom and TKDoherty: In both cases I found I had to rename the XML file after I corrected it, because the theme didn't show up in iGoogle under the original XML name. Perhaps Google temporarily caches the file and doesn't even look for the corrected version. If this is the case, I have no idea how to clear the old version from Google's cache.
