The toolkit does not give you automatic translation for languages that
aren't in "regular" Google Translate. But if you contribute a
translation of say, an Obama speech, into Marathi, Google will learn
how to translate just that speech. Eventually, they may use your
contributed translation to make a fully automatic Marathi translator.
Or so I hope. I can't think of many other reasons Google has these
languages in their "to" list.
(Notice that Marathi is not in their "from" list. I assume this is
because people are more likely to create high-quality translation when
translating TO their mother tongue - therefore, it's that kind of
translation GT wants, rather than, say, Norwegian newspaper articles
translated badly into English by Norwegians.)
