It would be best if we had one consistent phonetic system for all the languages, but until then, your suggestion makes sense. I've never heard of BOPOMOFO before. I've only seen the Taiwan phonetics called "zhuyin". I would add that tones should also be indicated with either pinyin or zhuyin. I haven't seen either yet when translating Chinese to English with Google Page Translate. Nor have I been able to find a tab for enabling the speech feature some have mentioned in my browser (Seamonkey 2.0).
