What browser are you using? I've found that the experience with outdated browsers, such as IE6 (and older) or AOL's browser, is somewhat broken. If you're not using one of those, did you see the bar across the top of the viewport when you translated the page to another language? There are other folks on other threads talking about this issue, and a Google employee has noted our concerns... So, maybe we'll see some progress on this issue at some point in the hopefully-not-too-distant future.
