An idiom is simply an n-gram. Statistical translation has n-grams at
its core. There is one failure of equating idioms with n-grams and
that is that statistical translation, at any rate the Google version
does not have generics. Suppose I have "England". I can translate this
o the first pass to {Country=England} and to Ingleterra on the
second. Why can't Google do this. Why does it perpetually change
country names.
The same thing is true of idioms which often have to be written in
generic form.
