As well as translation there are a number of other factors in threads. One of the things that the moderators of both sci.physics.research and sci.math.research have requested is the ability to write Greek. Greek letters are used extensively in science. In Spanish you have accents and the upside down ?, but otherwise the letters are English. What happens if you want to mix Greek, Arabic, Russian or Hebrew?
Why can't Google Groups support the full range of expression which is possible in E-mail? Only this group allows any sort of non Roman expression, and even here the characters are preserved for one reply only.
