Right, but why stop there? What's spoken in Greece today is obviously not Greek. Greek was the language of Homer, but if you look at it, it sounds very little like the odd chatter going on in modern Greece, which is obviously heavily influenced by other languages and cultures. I suggest we rename "Greek" "Bastardized Greek", and reserve the other name for the classical, extinct variety.
