I am writing because in browsing the new LibreOffice website I came across a page here
http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/faq/general-faq/how-do-you-pronounce-libreoffice/ that said "How do you pronounce LibreOffice?" I was led to a page that had Google Translate, and the link to the pronunciation (in English) sounded like this: "LIE - BREE Office" (1) The above is not written with bona-fide IPA notation, but English speakers will understand what I mean. I suspected that this was not right, so I wrote the LibreOffice team to inquire, and it turns out, for English, it should sound more like this: "LEE - bruh Office" (2) or this "LEE - bray Office" (3) The discussion then went the direction of LibreOffice rewriting webpages and including sound files for a bunch of different languages. Doing all of that work is fine, I guess; I don't want to stand in their way at all. On the other hand, it would seem to me that Google Translate is not doing the best thing in this case and there might be a chance of improvement on the Google side, too. So I am writing to alert the Google Translate team of this problem, in the hopes that somebody with the ability to do something might look into this. The LibreOffice project is just getting started, and I think it would be great (and aligned with the interests of both Google and LibreOffice) if LibreOffice could continue using a (perhaps corrected or special-case) version of the Google Translate tool.
