rocdad, How are you getting to Google Translate? Are you visiting http://translate.google.com/? If so, it should remember your previous language. If you're clicking "language tools" on the Google hompage, you're getting to an old UI that is not as easy for us to update, and thus does not have the convenience of remembering your previous language.
