The "contribute to a better translation" prompt (*1.): great feature.
But another great feature appears to have been sacrificed to get it working. Last week, hovering the pointer over a word in the translated text window caused the word from which it was translated to be highlighted in the window containing the source text. (*2). This was a great feature too. Now when you hover the mouse over a word of translated text, it highlights the sentence and offers feature *1. Having both features would be the bee's knees. Here's how to do it. When hovering a mouse over a word of translated text, the following would happen: i) The word over which the pointer hovers highlights yellow as was previously the case with *2. This is matched in the source text as previously with *2. ii) The sentence in which the highlighted word sits is also highlighted, but in an inconspicuous shade of blue, as in *1. This would provide a way of getting both features if only the following were also done: iii) As *1 is now operating, it presents a speech bubble containing the quote of source text that relates to the sentence highlighted by the hovering cursor. This is not actually necessary. It is also obstructive, obscuring text in the translation window around the highlighted sentence. The sentence of source text does not need to be quoted in the translation window because it can be highlighted in the source text. If this is done in inconspicuous blue as it is in the right, each individual word over which the mouse hovers in the right can also be highlighted yellow in the left. An unobtrusive prompt, "contribute to a better translation", can still appear in the translated text window. That would give the best of both worlds. If cursor movements and highlights in the source window were also reflected in the translated window, well that would be simply spiffing. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "General" group.
