I am using translate.google.com to translate chat messages from
simplified Chinese to English.

When I use the translate tools, I sometimes use the alternate
translation suggestions and sometimes enter different text.
Additionally, I sometimes reorder (rearrange) the words or phrases to
make the translation more fluent. Thus, my specific question is, which
translation does the "rate translation" function actually rate? --the
original translation or the alternate/edited translation??

I was unable to find a definitive answer Google's documentation and
the forum; Google explains that you can find alternate translations
and that you can rate translations, but I want to know if the
translations I rate are the original (sometimes bad) ones or if they
are the alternate/edited (improved) ones. Could someone please let me
know?

Additionally, if any Google employee comes across this post, I'd like
to suggest that the "What can I do to improve Translation quality?"
section <http://translate.google.cn/about/intl/en_ALL/> be rewritten
to explain what the "rate translation" actually rates.

Thanks!!
