I would like to see Google Translate have three boxes on the translation page. This way, you could type the text to be translated, view the translated text, and back translate the text to the original language. For example, English text could be entered, translated to Spanish and then back translated to English in the third box. This process would allow users to do a better job of determining whether the translation its meaning are clearly translated.
For example: While visiting Spain, we had a theft and in the process of trying to communicate with the local police I used Google Translate. I typed a report in English and printed the translation in Spanish to give to the police. There was a person at the police station to help with translation and while the report got across what happened only the list of what was taken was useful. When I got back to my computer I used GT to translate back what I had given the police and realized that the translation was not accurate, just a word to word translation. For Example: Our camera backpack with some equipment in was stolen from our car on10/12/2011 between the hours of 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. We discovered the theft when we got back to the place we were staying. Translates to: Nuestra mochila de la cámara con un poco de equipo de fue robado de nuestras on10/12/2011 coche en el horario de 1:00 PM y 4:00 PM. Nos descubrió el robo cuando llegamos al lugar donde se alojaban. And from Spanish to English: Our camera backpack with a bit of equipment was stolen from our car on10/12/2011 the hours of 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. We discovered the theft when we got to where they were staying. Using cut&paste I worked on translating from English to Spanish and back until I was able to find a better translation. Nuestra mochila de la cámara con un equipo de la cámara fue robada de nuestro coche on10/12/2011 la 1:00 PM y 4:00 PM. Nos descubrió el robo cuando volvimos a nuestro hotel. English Our camera backpack with camera equipment was stolen from our car on10/12/2011 the hours of 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. We discovered the theft when we returned to our hotel.
