My textbook says that the sense of as-soon-as.. is 'yapar yapmaz'. That is the pos and neg verb forms of the -r present non-continuous tense.
An example from the book is: Eve gelir Telephone çalar çalmaz cevap ver = As soon as the phone rings answer it.. In Google Translate the English translation is:' Telephone does not ring alarm reply' In this case the sense of 'as-soon-as' has been lost. The rest is sortable with the tools given. Another example from the book is 'Eve gelir gelmez banyo yapacağım' = 'As soon as I come home I will have a bath'. In Google Translate the English translation is: 'As soon as the bath house will'. In this case the sense of as-soon-as has been maintained but the root meaning of the verb 'come' (gel) has been lost. If you just put the two pos, neg verbs into the translator ie. yapar yapmaz it will give 'does not'. If you put in gelir gelmez it will give ' as soon as the...' So in one case the Translator loses the sense as-soon-as..' and in the other it loses the meaning of the verb. These examples will not reverse translate Any help much appreciated. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "General" group.
